Top tips to keep children and PCs out of danger this summer
(15/07/2010)
Once children finish school they spend more time online, and it is often difficult for parents to try and prevent the trouble related to it.
So, to keep children and PCs out of danger this summer, F-Secure has posted its top tips for parents:
1. Repeat the mantra “links are not your friends”
Make kids aware of cybercriminals who post “amazing links”, if it is too good to be true it probably is.
2. Keep up with updates
Keep system software up to date as the less updated the PC is the higher the risk.
3. Tell kids you will handle installing software
Parents should teach children that in the event they want to install software no matter what pops up it is the parents job to install it
4. Make clear what information your kids should not share
Tell children not to give out any private information and to avoid posting information about their schedules and holidays. Children need to be aware that no matter how private they think social networks are, they’re not.
5. Let them know that you are watching
Know which social networks your children are on and create a profile for yourself.
