CHASE hospice care for children is calling on readers to do something amazing this March and arrange a Let’s Lunch event to raise money to help support local families with life limited children. CHASE is a children's hospice service which provides a network of care to families with life-limited children and young people in South West London, Surrey and Sussex.

The CHASE Let’s Lunch campaign, which is now in its third year, focuses on lunch as it is such an important part of the day for families when they visit the CHASE children’s hospice, Christopher’s.

CHASE Deputy Chief Executive, Bridget Turner explains why mealtimes are so significant: “Getting together at Christopher’s, our children’s hospice, for lunch and dinner are special times. For most people this is a routine every day activity, but just imagine if you could never sit down together because one of your children can’t eat in the usual way.

“When a family comes to stay at Christopher’s this is one of the everyday activities that we can put back. Whole families sit down and eat together because our care team do whatever it takes to make this happen. We will take over any artificial feeding and sit at the table with the family to support their special child.

“Even if a child cannot eat ordinary food, we will help them to enjoy the experience of being at the table, the social interaction, the fun and chatter during the sharing of a meal. Our wonderful cooks and volunteer cooks make sure all of the meals are home cooked, not cordon bleu but good quality wholesome food, that is hot, appetising and ready on the plate for every mum and dad to just enjoy - and no washing up afterwards. Picture the Walton’s mountain kitchen table and that's what meal times are like when the families we care for come for a well earned break at Christopher’s!”

Event Fundraiser, Diana de Moura Stewart said: “We are pleased to be launching our Let’s Lunch campaign again. It was really successful last year and people really enjoyed the events they held. They were really creative with their ideas for the events and we hope that in 2010 that even more people take part.

“The campaign runs throughout March so people have plenty of time to plan their event which can be with family, friends, colleagues at work or at school or college. We can give you lots of ideas on what event to organise and how to raise money at your event. It doesn’t have to be a lunch; it could be a breakfast, a picnic if the weather is good enough or even a beach barbecue. It’s up to you! It’s a really fun way to make a difference to the families supported by CHASE.
