Children's Illustration Workshops at the ICA
(26/06/2009)
Little Pencil at the ICA is becoming one of London's most creative and exciting workshops for children. This month professional illustrator Adrian Johnson is leading the workshop, encouraging children to create in response to music and film.
Based on the concept of Heavy Pencil, where illustrators draw in response to music with the results unfolding and projected onto the walls of the ICA bar, children in the Little Pencil workshop are played a song, explained the lyrics and then tasked with creating pictures to match.
Each scene is filmed and projected in time to the music and the kids can watch it on big plasma screen in the Fox Reading Room.
For the summer months, Little Pencil will be from 4.30-6.30pm and will include a free screening of a specially selected animated short film in the ICA cinema first.
4.30pm Len Lye shorts – ICA Cinema
Len Lye was an experimental film maker in the late 1920s and 30s making beautiful mostly abstract films. They will be showing Colour, Kaleidoscope, Rainbow Dance and Musical Poster No 1, all under 5 minutes in length. This will be preceded by a short guided tour of the projection room where children will be shown how the film is projected.
